Here is what there realy is to be proud of in Mexico. This is our true self and our true pride and heritage.
Contrast everything you see here with that mediocre Latino identity or that street gang trash you see in the
U.S.
Also included, are a few of those people who have given their lives and service to Mexico
and our people. These are our true heroes who fought for our people with honor, valor, and justice.
Emiliano Zapata: (Born August 8, 1879 - Assasinated April 10, 1919).
A good book to reference Emiliano Zapata is Zapata and the Mexican Revolution by John Womack Jr. You can find
this book in the Bibliography along with a link from where the book can be purchased.
Doroteo Arango Arámbula: Better known as "Pancho Villa." (Born June 5, 1877 - Assasinated July 23, 1923). Unfortunately there is so much folklore surrounding
Villa that it is often tricky to weed out what if fact from what is fiction. I also don't poses any books or know of
any that deal solely with empirical and historical facts concerning Pancho Villa :-(
Benito Juarez: (Born March 21, 1806 - Died July 18, 1872) He helped to
draft "El Plan de Ayutla", was a prominent leader in the "Guerra de la Reforma." He fought against the foreign imposed
government of Maximilian I and triumphed against the invader. I must also say that Juarez was not 100% good.
He had some fundamental flaws in his policies and ideas but 50% of his actions were for the good of Mexico and our people
while the other half were not so good and dangerous to us. But let us focus on the good that he did so that we can gather
knowlege and follow the example. Likewise we should learn his mistakes so that we can be better prepared
to know right from wrong and fight for Mexico with authenticity.
Pre-hispanic Mexica Civilization:
Our Mexican Revolution: It began in 1910
when the Mexican people became fed up with the dictatorship of Porfirio Diaz and the deplorable conditions in which most of
Mexico lived in. The rich exploited the poor, and among the poor rose the underdogs who fought the tyrants in the name of
freedom and land. Here is a scene from the movie:
Our indigenous heritage:
Our Mexican Architecture: This includes all pre-hispanic architecture as
well as colonial which counts as ours since it was indigenous hands who built all the buldings in that era. According to the
book Historia de Mexico (referenced in my Bibliograohy) "[e]sta comprovado que la mano de obra indigena fue la responsable
de construir los grandes edificios novohispanos" (Gomez 42,43). And also included is some modern Mexican architecture.
Our Humor: As any fellow paisano knows we Mexicans have a pretty eh...
unusual and very strong sence of humor. A good example is the movie by Alfonso Arau called Calzonzin Inspector
(You can buy it here: http://www.amazon.com/Calzonzin-Inspector-Arturo-Alegro/dp/B00008H2HX) This is a political movie that makes humorous satire of the corrupt Mexican politicians that plague the nation, according
to rumor this movie was banned in Mexico. Here is a scene from the movie:
